I'm looking to put a new cd player in my truck and I noticed best buy's selling a pretty decent head unit for 130. The thing is i've never heard of the brand. It's called "Dual"? Anyone heard anything about them?
Very generic brand, I wouldn't buy anything made by them. Look around more and you should be able to find a decent unit for $130 from a better brand (Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse, Clarion, Pioneer). Tell us what kind of features you are looking for and we can probably even help you find something.
Eh I'm just looking for something that looks good, plays cd's and has an ipod hookup. I know I can buy an ipod hookup for a head unit but i'd rather it just come with the head unit.
That one doesn't really have an ipod hookup from what I read, just a remote mounted 3.5mm input jack. There are plenty of radios in that price range with input jacks.
sony xplod (although most ppl hate them) has a few nice h/u's with the imput jacks, i have one in my car that im going to be replacing with a pioneer, but it has lasted me really good, doesent skip alot, looks pretty good. sounds good.
but as stated above, alpine, pioneer eclipse is just to name a few to look at
Yeah I've been checking out crutchfield. I might just go with another kenwood since the dual seems to be kind of iffy. I wish I never had to even go through this but my idiotic ex roomate stole my favorite kenwood.
I would also recommend sonic electronix. I have ordered a few things from them now and have been very impressed. There prices are always a lot lower than anywhere else. I plan on ordering my monitors and alarm from them later this summer.
Alpine cde-9870 retails for $119. kce-422i ipod interface cable. $30. plug your iPod into the cable, control everything with the radio. It chargers the Ipod while you drive. You can just run the cable to the glove box or your console and rock out. Radio is am/fm cd player, plays MP3 discs and has a detachable faceplate. Can't beat it... another 30 bucks gets you a cde-9873 which has a rotary volume **** instead of Up and Down buttons. nice... Crutchfield carries alpine as for as I know...those *******s!!! haha... They are competition to my shop. Anyways... that's my thought on the topic.
Dual is a brand generated from the original makers of Realistic or Audiovox; I can't remember which. They are not bad but their price keeps climbing into the better-known's territory.
Too bad too because my son has Dual head unit- he goes off road in his Ford playing a CD without a skip.
Dual has been around a very long time. I used to have a Dual 1019 turntable (late 1960's or early 1970's) that was one of the best made and very expensive. The new automotive systems are most likely made for them by one of the big names.
Another site you can check is cardomain if they have a radio you like in the price range you are looking for you can google it and find it somewhere cheaper and use cardomains 105% price match to save a lil extra money thats what i did with my pioneer 10 wound up saving about 10 bucks
