Post Which Chip for 2001 PSD?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-02 AT 03:52 PM (EST)]Hi there, I have a 2001 crew cab lariet PSD with 15,000 miles. I do haul a camper that weighs about 6500 lbs and occasionally a car trailer and car which I guess could go over the 8,000 lb mark. I have heard about several chips to include: hypertech, diablo, superchip and bulldog. The superchip interested me because I was told I could have 2 settings (towing and 130? horsepower) plus the stock setting that were controlled by a toggle switch on the dash. Which chip is the best for my application without any other modifications to my truck?

Which Chip for 2001 PSD?

Both Hypertech or Bullydog are good products but I am admittedly biased as a Diablo/Superchips dealer so I'll refrain from commenting on them.

As far as Diablo/Superchips goes, I recommend the Superchips. It gives 60/80 HP. The 60 is great for towing and the 80 can be used other times. DO NOT USE A CHIP RATED 90 OR HIGHER RATED CHIP! They are meant for zero towing, with a good EGT gauge and full 4" exhaust.

So this chip you are explaining is a superchip with 2 settings. One at 60 for towing and one at 80 for driving. How do you switch the settings?

Couple more qestions if you don't mind, I've heard that the superchip requires modification to the module it attaches to making it harder to install, loosly attached, and opening the dust seal on the module so it is possible for dirt to get in and disrupt or cause damage to the module.

Are these reversible once installed?

Do the other brands have the same features?

Has any one such as consumer reports etc. done reviews on these chips and/or reprograming?

Thanks again

Its not a chip, per se. Its a tuner. It reprograms your stock computer. It plugs into the diag port, reprograms the computer and then you unplug it. To switch, simply plug it back and follow the steps on its screen.

Doesn't apply with the Microtuner since it doesn't attach.

Yes, the Microtuner lets you go back to stock at any time.

The Hypertech shares a few of the same features ---- but I'm not selling Hypertechs.... :-)

Superchips, Diablo and others have been featured in many magazines over the years. Not consumer reports though...

No, not yet. The Delta chip, due soon will have on the fly dual settings plus stock.

$339 is the sale price for the Superchips programmer.
