does anyone Know if the torque-converter locks up in overdrive on the a4ld tranny. Just wondering about my recent decreased gas milage also what would some of the semptoms. the RPM seem normal, Know that I replaced a diode.
Yes, the torque converter clutch can lock up in either 3rd or 4th gear when commanded by the computer. The standard test to see if the TCC is locked is
1) Drive at ~55 mph.
2) While maintaining steady throttle/speed, tap the brake pedal and watch engine RPM (and vacuum).
3) In response to the brief "brake" signal, the computer should unlock the TCC (RPM's should increase a few hundred), then relock the TCC when the brake signal is gone.
delightful, I"LL try this method of testing. Its good to Know that I can get help. here , just by asking. In afew years i might learn somthing. Just its real delightful..
Yes, there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here, and it's FREE, unlike some DIY info sites (I think AlldataDIY still charges a fee for their site?). Pretty much any problem you have, someone here has had it or has the knowledge to troubleshoot and repair it.
