Speedometer sensor

Can anyone tell me what kind of speedometer sensor is on my 2004 F350 SD ?

I know it is a 2-wire and I know that it is on the rear diff. But can anybody tell me the electrical theory.

I'm especially trying to find out if on of the wires is ground, or if they are both signal wires.

I am not 100 percent sure how it works, but I just replaced mine two days ago. There is a ring bolted up to the ring gear. That ring has highs and lows. The sensor must have a magnetic sensor that picks up the pulse of highs and lows. The magnetic sensor acts as a switch that lets an electrical signal pass (a pulsating signal). There should be one "hot" wire and one "neutral/ground" that the pulsating signal passes though.

If I am way off base please correct me!

I hope this helped.
