slide out electrical wire modifications

The way the RV Companies build the bump outs with the large spring connected dirrectly to the tiny little 7 strand wire that power the accessories in the slide outs really puzzles me. It is a failure waiting to happen.

On my last camper, I completely removed the spring and tucked up the wire when I was on the road. But for my new camper, I came up with a fix.

I picked up some 16 gauge stranded Stainless steel wire from a construction site and made a strap that will take the tension off of the power wires. You can also get the wire from lowes/home depot.

Here's what ya do.

Open up the slide out. Do ya see how tight the spring is on the wires? There are some clamps that secure the power wires to the frame and slide out. Loosen up the bolts and wrap the wire around the nut. When you fish the strap through the spring, loop it around the spring so the spring does not slide up and down the strap when operating the slideouts.

Finally, loosen up the other anchor bolt, loop the strap around it and pull the strap just tight enough to give the power wires some slack. Finished! Total time invested, 10 minutes.

Now you don't have to worry about ripping the wires out of the wall or breaking them.

here's some pics of my Mod:
