I've heard the biggest you could fit without getting fancy is 33" x 12" tire. According to my calculations your try to jam a tire in there that's 12.79" wide. I'm going to try a 265/60 R18 ON FX4 rims. that's a 10.4" wide tire. I've looked under there and with a leveling kit it doesn't even look like it will be even close to a problem.
I am running BFG 305/65/18 on stock 18" FX4 rims and tire spec is 8.5-11 and they fit great on 7.5 stock rim. No rubbing and these tires are 33.7" diam. I have a 2" AS Leveling kit and nothing in the back. I wonder if raising the back is creating your problem.
These tires are 13.50 wide. So I think it might just be alittle to much but I saw other people with the same thing and thought it would work. I really like the stock rims though.

I think I could go 12-12.5 wide and clear with no rubbing but I don't think I would make 13". I really do not like the stock rims. I loved them on my 03' FX4 but am not real wild about these. Just my opinion but hope you find a solution that works. I was worried my tires would not fit on stock wheels but everyone said to stop worrying. The day I took it in to have the new rubber put on I was just waiting for the call that they would not fit and I would have to buy new wheels.
i am running 325 60 18 on pro comp 9005 "knight chrome" series wheels from 4wheel parts. they fit fine, and the only rubbing i had was on the stock mudflaps, and the inside edge of the front bumper. but, that is cured now with a little saw cut, and a bracket to pull the fender back just slightly. looks much better now.
