Towing a CJ7 with a Ranger?
Hello all I just got a new to me 04 SC 2wd Edge with the 3.0 auto with the 4.10 open dif.
I want to flat tow my 86 CJ7 to the gulf of Mexico camping about 500 each way on some of the flattest roads in the world here in Texas.
My question is do you think I should go with a class IV hitch or just run with the bumper?
There will be almost no tounge weight but the jeep weighs in around 3500-3750 depending on fuel and top options.
Anyone ever try to tow a jeep and have any advice or experience?
Thanks in advance
JM

I've pulled a ranger with a cj, so whats good for the goose is good for the gander as they say. However, it wasn't 500 miles, needless to say. I seen no problem with a 3.0 and 4:10 gears, the bumper may work, but I would feel better with a hitch myself. Does your ranger have a tranny cooler, you may want one for such a long pull in the heat of summer to insure your tranny as a long life. If any thing goes wrong, just reverse it and pull the ranger with the jeep, your set either way hee hee.

I know the jeep could tow the ranger but I dont think my old abused liver and kidneys could handle 1000 miles on the interstate in a 86 CJ7 Bwaahahahahaha!
