Well, I did a nice burnout last night with the v10 f250 and melted the rear tires a little more than I thought, and this morning when I when outside I could see the result of that burnout in the form of melted rubber bits all over the rear portion of the truck, bumper, etc.
Soo.....I took it to the local selfwash car wash and used the pressure washer on it for a bit, but no luck. Finally I went to walmart and picked up a spray can of bug and tar remover from turtle wax, which stated that it's safe for clear coat and chrome surfaces. Well, it only took about 20 minutes of rubbing and I finally was able to get all of the rubber bits removed - it did get a bit messy when the rubber started to smear a little, but that was easily resolved by switching out rags frequently. I just thought I share that this stuff worked really well, and did not affect the paint at all and the truck is now back to it's pre-burnout appearance.
I learned my lesson, and won't be doing anymore burnouts like that for awhile.
yea, we used to have a pine tree over our drive way, sap got all over the cars. could NOT figure out how to get it off.. grabbed a thing of bug and tar remover and it worked wonders!
A trick I've seen used by some "run-what-ya-brung" racer types (street-legal cars that they run on a dragstrip) is to put a thin film of petroleum jelly on the sheetmetal just behind the rear tires. The rubber sticks to that and will usually wash off with a pressure washer.
i have always been able to just brush it off, if you clean it off the same night that you do it, it will usually just brush right off, at least thats what i have found in my experience
