Sorry about the off-topic posting! What I really wanted to ask is:
"I plan to do some hauling of freight next week, and wonder if I can get away with loading 1,500 pounds into the bed? The pickup is a long box type and the "safety compliance label" on the driver side door pillar says: GVWR 5600 lb/ 2540 kg, Front GAWR 2800 lb/ 1270 kg, Rear GAWR 2900 lb/ 1315 kg. The tires are P235/70R."
i towed my s10 ext cab on a 20 ft flat bed from cali to Illinois with my 04 Heritage, v6 five speed. Did great. i had my hill issues, but so did everyone else on the hills.
This is the best truck ive ever had!!! so far. It has a full box cap and i dont feel like taking it off to put my quad in it. Very smooth truck over the rough stuff and very quiet in the cab(compared to my diesel). I did a fuel mileage test driving like a normal teenager but i would only go 105 km/h. I got 33 mpg and it wasn't on the highway at all. Is this normal fuel mileage?
you are doing the math wrong... no way are you going to get 33 mpg.
I hear you on 2wd trucks... they offer a much better ride and fuel economy than 4wd trucks.
I had a 98 F250 ld 2wd 4.6/5 speed and it was one of the best trucks I've ever driven. I tried to buy it when I quit that job, but they didn't want to sell it.
The only way that you will get an accurate measurement of MPG is to completely fill the tank, record mileage, drive to near empty, completely fill again. Then do your computations.
I personally top off everytime that I fill up, right to the top of the filler neck. I run the tank until well after the low fuel warning. There are times when filling up that I have put in excess of 25 gallons. I have never had a problem doing this.
As long as you take an average sample, and sample often, you can get a good sample on a half tank, thats just good research. You'll have to post your actual mileage, hopefully it will kickstart me into owning a similar truck. I'd really like to find a 4.6V8/5speed truck.
After a long while i finally burnt half a tank messing around town and short trips all over the place. I did a mileage test and averaged 23 mpg. Stll beats the hell out of my 16 mpg with my diesel messing around like that. Im going on a trip this week on nothing but highway and ill do another mileage test.
Have recently been in an accident and I'm trying to decide if I want to rebuild my '88 or buy another truck. I am intriqued by a truck I found.
it is an '01 4x4 regular cab long bed XL. It has the 5.4 engine and automatic transmission. They are asking $7000. All body panels are straight, paint is good and being a Texas truck it is rust free. It has 111,000 miles.
Sounds like a good truck... try kbb.com or nadaguides.com for values based on features and your own judgement. Values are highly subject to local demand and supply, a truck like that in this area would be $10-11K.

Comments or suggestions?
I messed up. I meant to start a new thread, but replied to this one instead.
165k on my '98 and haven't seen any of the problems of some of the V6s. Damn dependable truck. As a daily driver, tho, 16mpg is about all I can squeeze out of her on a good, light-footed day.
