Is it not possible to use a flat piece of sheet metal mounted in the orginal Mustang twist on mounting ring and bolt the truck type sending unit in themiddle of that?

I have seen this done , I do not recall the sender unit BUT, I do recall the guy telling me that the o-ring had to be changed to allow for the thicker plate ( round ) . I went out and looked at the sender that was supplied with my Autometer set and it appears that it would work as the sender just bolts to the tapped plate.Keep in mind that the rubber o-rings are Nitrile ( Buna-N) which is oil/gas resist.

sorry to hijack the thread, but i have a couple ?s about my own new tank install on my 57 longbed:
do i NEED to paint or treat the new repro mustang tank before install?
if i am never planning to remove the tank can i just screw the tank flanges to the frame crossmembers? or do i need a 1" box tube frame all the way around or at least under tank straps?
i've read and seen multiple different ideas and would welcome anybody's opinion
thanks
andy
Check my gallery for pix. I was not comfortable with just bolting through the tank flange. Seems like alot of weight to me so I fabbed some straps as well. I also chose to modify my rear crossmember instead of moving it. See what ya think.
The flanges were all that held the tank in the original Mustang so they should be adequate to hold it in your truck. I would not bother with straps too...
I would think the flanges would be enough provided there is the same amount of screws holding the tank in place. It`s made to sit on a ledge.
Yup, same story according to Mustangs Unlimited, the supplier of my tank. Has no straps, has not moved or sagged. I used all the bolt holes to the 1"x1" tubing frame. Works good, looks good.
