OK, let's just call it a "general rule", and there are exceptions...

Also good to remember that people like to change emblems, or remove them, so it's hard to say what a truck is by the emblems because they are so easy to mess with.
Mine didn't have any emblems. I had to look up my vin for manufacturer's date to see when my truck's birthday was to see what I had exactly.
Edit - I was looking through my paperwork the other day and found the original purchase sticker (the window sticker) it's quite funny to see how LITTLE the original owner paid for my truck back in '99. I should scan it and post it for you guys to see.

Oooh, are we making wadgers on how much err little he paid?
Posting a pic of an engine essentially could lead to the same thing, how many conversions are there, some 00 look like 05. Either the door jamb sticker or decoding the vin number is the only positive way. However, I willing to venture that it is a 99.5 as well. I believe in Jan of 99 they started putting the badges on the door. Actual engine differences and front axle changes took place starting March of 99.
I heard that , Im not lookin foreward to the taxes and plates im gonna hafta pay on this one i just bought. in the neighborhood of 1400 total. For an 8 year old truck.. Id have an aneurism if i had to pay the 6% tax on a new 350,and then plates be glad if you live in a tax collecting state lol (i think)
Plates here are kinda high too. (Cheyenne,Wyoming). Gotta pay to play it seems.

Wyoming I think is a bit different, but I'm in CO and I had to pay about $1000 in state taxes, my plates cost about $360 if memory serves. Renewal this year is $180 bucks.
Yeah takes the state 10 days or so to get notice from the dealer that i bought the truck. Then i have 45 days (from the purchase date) to go to the County treasurers office and give them right about 1000 or so. Then i have to go to the title office etc... and get plates and be out around 450 or so. Only good thing is all this isnt rolled into my finacing (Not legal in this state). So im using that to make me feel better about the whole deal lol.
I like that they could roll all of that into my financing. I didn't come out of pocket a dime for my truck the day I bought it. I just got the coupon book in the mail for the payments though, ugh...
This is one time though, that I am glad I still don't live in Georgia. They have what they call ad velorum (sp) tax on vehicles there. It works out to 1% of the vehicles book value every year for license plates. On top of the 5%-6% sales tax when you originally buy it, depending on which county you live in. The kicker is that 1% is due on your birthday every year. Nice present to yourself huh? "Hello sir, that will be $330 please. Happy birthday!!"
After reading all that it makes me feel a little better about UT, not much but a little bit. Reading all of this makes me realize how nice it was to register in ID, around 56 a year for a truck, no plate fee or extra crap, just 56 and your good to go.
