Is it a 4 spd on the floor? If so, the shifter has dowel pins into the top of the trans. You need to remove the shifter, push down on the collar around the shifter bar and turn 1/4 turn counter clockwise and it should lift out. You will see one or two metal dowel pins (depends on type of trans) on each side of the trans where the shifter sits. Be carefull that these don't fall into the trans or you will be taking the trans apart too! They are supposed to be round but get flat sides worn into them from shifting. They will slide out then just slide new ones in.
I couldn't find new ones for my '73 so I had to make my own. Just get a long 1/4 inch bolt and use the blank part with no threads - thats the perfect size. Just cut to length of the old ones and install.
