I took my 02 F350 to the stealership because it was low on power and hard starting.I had replaced the oil ,air and fuel filters as well as the cps to no luck .Took it to a mechanic to pull the codes and got the low pressure ICP code and others as well.took it to ford and just got the call. My hpop is not putting out enough pressure .they say have to replace it and then they want to check the injectors .If they have to replace any they are up to 7000 bucks !!!!!! I am in edmonton alberta and don,t know if i should attemp to fix this Help!!!!!
A full set of performance injectors would run around 2500 and 600 for the HPOP throw in 225 for a new IPR for a total 3325 in parts (stock injectors could save about 1000). The HPOP is not that bad of a job but you will need access to a scan tool capable of reading live data to diagnose whether it is one of the sensors (ICP or IPR) or the HPOP itsself.
High pressure oil pumps rarely go bad,, If I had to guess on the low power maybe the LPOP isn't supplying enough oil to the HPOP...Are you getting a 1211 code?...Also , you may want to check the fuel pressure....
well I am letting them do the hpop ,it is only puting out 480 and requires 500 to start tech didn't know how it was even starting .Even running it put out only 480 they checked everything else you guys told me bout thanks guys i didn't feel like a total moron thanks to you . the hpop up here it is 1300 and i am going to hope for the best.Is it easier to test and see if there is a bad injector after the hpop is fixed? Or do they have to take them out and bench test them?
Alan might need to chime in, but I think I remember that it requires 400 psi to start. At idle the HPOP pressure only sits around 480-500, and that's normal.
This place you are taking it to sounds VERY shady. Why diagnose a bad HPOP and then also need to replace all 8 injectors? Most likely it's nothing more than a bad ICP sensor or a bad IPR. Take it somewhere else, don't even let them replace the HPOP.
How many miles on that truck? I would bet the HPOP is still good, especially if it starts. Gee, "never seen one start with that low of pressure". First warning sign. Sure would suck to find that you had a faulty check valve at the cost of a HPOP. Best of luck to you.
Truck has 295 000 km on it and i disconected the icp sonsor and it would not start at all .Never thought of check valve .Truck was running great just before it lost power so from what people say here it doesn't sound like injectors.
My truck is over 515 thousand miles now with no hpop replacement.
I suggest you crank and watch the oil pressure guage and tell us how long you counted to before it rams up to normal. Lpop is way easier and cheaper to replace.
