Okay, finally got the ranger put back together and running, now my problem...
Truck wont hardly even idle because it backfires so much. When I start it I can rev it up to about 2k and it will run fine. As soon as I let it below about 1250 RPMs it starts poping and backfiring really bad, enough to stop the engine.
What did I miss when I put it back together. I mean its a DIS so i shouldnt have to time anything.
But basically where is the SPOUT connector on these trucks? Is it the wire that connects to the little metal cylinder that is the size of a battery?
Also I hooked up my timing light and it will run pretty constant but every once in a while it will cut out for half a second. So somethings wrong with the ignition system. Any ideas?
I know you need a spcial tool to time the cams on the sohc - can't recall if that is needed for the ohv engine or not - but that's another thing to check out.
Anyway, from our Tech Info" on the 3.0L, just scroll down to & click on the second link about ignition, & it'll show a pictorial that also applies to the 4.0L wire routing.
