1998 Ranger Factory security
Looking for a little help for my daughter and her Ranger. I am from the older truck section, as I am building a 1954 f-100 myself.
the question is: My daughter's truck has a button security system, and she only has the one of the devices for her keyring. If that gets lost or stolen or breaks, she can't drive the truck. Is there an aftermarket for these devices?
Is this a Ford issue item, it has Ford on the back of the button device.
Please note, this is not keyless entry, even thought the button device looks the same, she still has to use the key for entry, but push the button to turn off the security device.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

why wouldn`t she be able to drive the truck? i have a `98 ranger with security system and if you don`t hit the button before you unlock door as soon as you turn the ignition the alarm stops. you can also get an aftermarket system. i got an alarm from viper security and it has an alarm, keyless entry, and remote start and it was resonable priced. it also allows you to still use the factory key fob switch

Rockledge, since we did not purchase the truck new, I'm really not sure who did the installation, but the key fob for the security says Ford on it. So, I assumed that it was a factory install. Can you get the security key fob devices only form Ford or can y;ou get them other places as well?

I'm not exactly sure what you have on your hands either so it's hard for me to say. 
But if the truck doesn't have power locks, then it doesn't have a factory anti-theft system.
You might try stopping by a dealership and chatting with someone in the parts dept., see what they can tell you regarding dealer-installed security systems, 1998 vintage.
