Something in the heater

I think a bolt or something fell down the vent in my dash to the box housing the heater. is there anyway to get it out without pulling out the whole dash. The damn thing rattles around in there everytime i turn a corner.

Try a magnetic retriever, inspection mirror and flex light.

I sincerely doubt you can reach into the plenum (heater) chamber using a tool and magnet from the dash. Under the dash, it's possible. The defroster duct, and it's one moulded plastic unit, is shaped like a long lazy V. On the bottom of the duct is a flex hose which is part of the duct. The flex hose has a lower flange with two screw holes. The flange screws to the plenum chamber. Remove the two flex hose screws, push the flex hose up, and use tape to keep there. Then feed the tool into the rectangular opening. The largest section of the plenum is at that point.

Put a big glob of Permagum or similar on your magnet too, in case your annoyance is non-ferrous (had 83 cents in change in mine that drove me nuts - took nearly 2 hours to get it all out)
