I'm not sure what happened either, but I think it was supposed to make you think "this is the life of Tony Soprano". He still knows the FBI is coming for him and New York is probably still after him even though Phil is gone now.
Did you notice how he checked out everyone who entered the diner? Now he's always wondering if the next person to walk into a room has either an arrest warrent or a bullet with his name on it.
Just my opinion. But I kinda wish the series would have ended with clearer picture of what happened....either he went to jail or got whacked. The ending was kind of a "not ending"....it was just another day....I expected more....
The cow ain't ready to go the salebarn yet. Look for a movie so they can milk the franchise some more... That's why it's left so inconclusive in most cases, and probably this one as well.
The ending sucked. I want to call a hit on the idiot writers of this show. The worst ending I've ever been forced to watch. It sucked.
I think that if no other movie or season follows this, that the implication could be the John Doe who walked into the men's room came out and capped Tony right when Meadow walked into the diner. But it does leave the possibility that isn't the way it happened and there'll just be another day when they decide to restart the show.
Also, the way they whacked Phil was creative, but very anticlimatic. No reprisal, no drama to his death. Just pop-squish and he's gone. Eh.
Did I mention that it sucked? Actually, this whole season was the worst.
I've never watched The Sopranos, but a big fan just called in to Fox&Friends. He said that basically everyone in the room at the end was someone Tony had caused problems for in the past, and could be out to get him. Sounds like leaving an opening for a movie to me. The fan also said the message boards on HBO's website are lit up with p.o.'ed people.
Well I thought it was a excellent ending. The brilliance of Chase is he would absolutely not "spoon feed" a predictable ending. My husband and I have been watching from the beginning and overall Sopranos goes down as one the most entertaining series we've ever seen.
Terrible...I'd rank it right up there with Godfather 3.
Too many people want to justify it by playing the deep angle. It was a terrible ending and not nearly worth the 8 years leading up to it, or the two year stints in between seasons. It was a mob show...it should've ended like one.
There must be more in the works somewhere...I just hope they don't botch that too.
if tony got killed, or the guy who went into the bathroom came out and shot tony, or was just some surious customer that was looking at him, would have made it better??
personally i liked the way it ended, because of watching this the last 8 years, and becoming a fan, i didnt want to see tony die anyways.
philly got it, and got it good.
what did you all think of the "*****" staring at chris's picture?
I've thought more about it & I like the way it ended. I have expected to see Tony killed or arrested by the feds for wks now. I'm glad Tony & his family weren't killed.
