I have a 95 f250 with the powerstroke and the E40D tranny. with 250000 miles i am on my third tranny and it is starting to shift real hard in all gears does anybody think it might be due to a torque conveter lock up.
also when was your trainsmition serviced last? a lot of times a good flush and synthetic refill will straiten them right out if you dont Waite to long.
it sounds like you work it prety hard, Have you added a after market trains cooler? If not then you should consider it. even if you dont pull a trailer it will more than double the life of your trainsmition
Your doing good I did 3 in on year on one truck .And just replaced one that was from Ford with 36000 miles . They put both in as it was under warranty .
Even with trans cooler ,service, and new TC they are the weak link. I service mine more often than say and never got more than 120000 out of one. The last 2 I took right to Ford garage the price and warrenty are good . (But since they didn't last ) I'll just go where ever I can get the longest warranty for best price when the next one goes. And it will.
Good luck

I have an '87 w AOD and I siphon out about 4 quarts of tranny fluid from the pan on every 4th. oil change and replace it with fresh. I have 255K on mine and aside from the above and a filter change at 100K, nothing else has been done and yep, it's the origonal tranny. I use 1/4 inch tygon tubing pushed down the fill tube till it stops and although it takes awhile to siphon it out, it's a relatively clean job. I'm at 250K and oil change after next, I'll replce the filter but I'll still siphon the fluid out first because it makes it oh so much easier not to have that fluid rain down from all directions of the pan.
I service the tranny more than required and i have 3 tranny coolers and i keep getting trannys form the dealler but i just bought a f450 with a 5 speed for cheap because the motor was blown so i think that will be my next tranny
