Water Pump replacement

My Uncle desperately needs help replacing the waterpump in his truck, I believe it is a 1974 Ford F100 or F200. He is working and he and my aunt have to move in 4 days(long story) and could use the truck. He has a new water pump for it....I don't know what else would be needed aside from new coolant.....is this a hard repair on this year/style vehicle....does it need anything else like a new thermostat along with the pump? I will be out there tomorrow attempting this repair so I can check what else he has bought but any help/advice as always is greatly appreciated.

the replacement should be very simple and straight forward , only simple hand tools and some basic know how. You will need the water pump mounting gasket and some rtv silicone to apply to the bolt threads so water does not leak past them. a new t stat and gasket is always wise every 2 years or 24,000 miles so if its been longer i would replace them. Also don't over look the radiator cap it may need to be replaced. All the parts i mentioned including the cap and t stat should not cost more than 20.00.

Cool....I have a friend with an 84 Vette and the process for water pump r/r is a nightmare so I had no idea about this truck.....(I didn't want to have to get the a/c discharged and disconnected and then dissasemble half the top part of the engine area to get to it)

There may be a fan shroud, so you will either have to remove it, or work around it. The fan and pulley bolt to the waterpump, so it's easy off, easy on. Look closely at the fan belts, turn them over, pinch them and look for age cracks. Now is the time to replace them if they are bad. Same thing on the radiator hoses. If they are soft, replace them. Your engine is prolly a 240 I-6, or possibly a 300 I-6. The parts are the same.

Note: Pay close attention to how the thermostat comes out of the waterneck, it's easy to install it backwards...you do not want to do that.

The air conditioning is not connected in any way to the parts you are replacing, except maybe for the A/C belt.

Oh I figured that about the AC....my comment was about the process it takes to change the pump in my Friends corvette......discharging the AC made that out of the question for either one of us hehe....thank you for all the info and help.
