Alright guys i really need your help
I'm new to fords, right now i got a jeep cherokee lifted and all...
A guy is selling a 2000 F-250 Supercab Diesel
-$15k
-120k miles
-plow ready
-leaf springs all around, add-a-leaf plus re-arch (for snow plow)
-325's Toyo A/T on some chrome 19"? rims
-oil leak
-A work truck, so a lil beat up....not bad though
This will be a daily driver for me...
Will the leaf springs all around be really stiff on-road?
Is 120K miles high for a diesel?
How is the gas mileage on these 7.3L v8 diesels?
Can you tell me anything I'm missing or give some advice...
120k miles is nothing for these trucks, 200k isnt really much either, as long as you maintain it. Theres one person on here with over 500k on his. The leaf spring suspension is a little stiff, but i actually prefer a stiffer ride on a truck. The suspension is very reliable on these trucks, and like anything, there is small things that need upgraded, IE sway bar end links. I average 30-40k miles a year in mine, and thats just to get to the areas were ill be working. I really enjoy driving mine. Gas mileage is fantastic, in my last 144k miles, i havent used a gallon of gas yet, however diesel / fuel mileage is far from that good . My truck seems to average 14.5 - 16 in the summer, mixed driving and 12.5 in the winter. My truck also is loaded with a cap, and tools, stock, etc, so it weighs about 8500 every day. Some people have squeezed 20 out of it, but 15 is very doable for every day driving. This truck will ride alot rougher then your cherokee you have now, but it will also be very reliable. Most chances the oil leaks are pretty easy to fix. The hardest part is determining were its leaking from. And there are a few common places to look. A couple of things you should consider, is to find out all the details, and check kelly blue book, and drive the thing and see what you think. If you choose to purchase it, try to keep some money on the sidelines, once you realize what you can do with / to it, youll be just like the rest of us, pmsing everyday (Powerstroke Modification Syndrome btw) good luck!
I have add a leaves on four corners and my truck rides stiffer than any other Superduty I've been in....but now that I'm used to it I wouldn't change it.
120K is just barely broken in....a non issue.
I get 17 mpg in summer and 15.5 in the winter rolling on 305's or 315's.
Do you know where the oil leak is from? It'll make a difference as to how much you should offer for it.
Assuming the engine is stock it will be pretty doggy off the line with the 325's.
While the auto's do fail from time to time, it's not as widespread as you "hear". There are a few simple upgrades to help the longevity. There are also several bombproof aftermarket units.
That would be me with over 500k......Your tranny will be the weakest link right now with the strain the plow would have continued to put on it. Im looking at going into my 5th and last tranny. Pulling for a living has burnt my first at 301k. My second 30k later and the 3rd (which I should have left in, just an electrical problem)replaced 60k and now this one is actually true to failing. I WILL NOT SELL, just upgrade the truck and tranny over and over until its a classic. I cannot afford a new 50k ride but I can make mine look like an 07 for much less.
Im off the road so a pit stop is not in the works yet. Ill be building my own with all good parts. I bet the guy doing mine is rebuilding them like gassers. Thats the only thing I can think of.
