08's

Hey all,

Been awhile since I posted. I live in SoCal. and I've seen probably 10 new SD's. I've only seen probsbly 4 diesels in the bunch. The rest have been gassers. V10's and V8's. I thought that was pretty cool, I'm used to the diesels out numbering the gas. Just this morning I saw a 350 CC SW LB towing a huge 5er' and it was a V10. Makes me miss my mighty V10. I was curious if others have noticed similar in your state?

I've only seen one up close enough to tell what engine it had, and it was a PSD - I didn't approach it on the tailpipe side - it was running

I was out in the mountains of West Texas last week. Most 3/4 and 1 ton truck were gassers. No farms or construction sites in the area so diesels aren't as popular I guess.

You go to any of the big cities in Texas and you'll find a diesel truck on every block in suburban driveways.

Go to the areas where there are big ranches and you find a lot of gassers.

Mine was the only '08 I saw between Del Rio and El Paso. So I guess all the '08s out there are V10s. But you don't see a whole lot of anything out there. That's why I like it out there.

At the dealer where my Dad works there are 2 '08 V10s in stock. Both XLT crew cabs, one is 4x4. That was earlier in the week. The V10s always sell fast down here.

I never really gave much thought to the flaming psd pipes until the other day when my daughter walked by my truck then stopped, turned around and looked straight into the exhaust pipe. The truck was running (had just been started) and the noise caught her attention. It was then that I thought about what if we were in the parking lot of a store and that had been someones new psd that started to flame. Maybe God will have mercy on that driver's soul... I sure won't!

I've only seen 4 '08s on the roads around here since they came out. Most recently an XL w/5.4L-- what an ugly duck! Spent a week down in the Addison/Carrollton/Farmers Branch/Plano/Frisco/N. Dallas area and only saw one 2008.

Ford says they're selling well. Guess I'll just have to take their word for it.

I've seen about 5 or 6 in the city...and all have been PSD. The local dealers have about 85% PSD...and 14% 5.4L. The V10 only gets about 1% out here. So what that means...if I want a new '08 SD V10, then it would have to be ordered. Which is a bummer!

All the dealers that I have been too here in Houston have from 50 to 100 new 08 SD on there lots. The only trucks that I have seen with gas motors where XL's and they where 5.4's no V10's to be found with almost every truck with a PSD.
So my new F250 with a V10 is on order. I have never even driven a V10 powered truck just going on what I read on this sight. After driving a diesel for the past 14 yrs I just hope its got the power that everybody is saying it has. I have only heard and read good things about the V10 and cannot understand why there are no V10's on the lots.

Welcome to the site goldglove!

Here's a tip to help you enjoy your new truck when it arrives...
A lot of old-timey diesel owners freak out when the engine hits 4000 RPMs. Don't worry about it! The new overhead cam gassers will easily turn 5200 all day and night without a problem. So, once your desired break-in procedure is complete, lay the pedal to the floor and let those cylinders scream!

lets not forget that ford ahd a diesel supply problem for a while, when IH stooped sending them psd's because ford simply said pay us back for all the failed 6.0's. ford didn't pay their bill for new motors ih stopped shipping so ford had to go to court and get a oder against ih and force them to start reshipping motors,

that left some time where they had only gas motors to build trucks with so we might see some for a period of time that had been built and were great prices on dealers lots.

i forget which way it is for sure but think a red fender vent is diesel and a black vent is gas for a fast tell. any know for sure what is what?

The red fender vent is diesel, black is gas. It is also written on the same vent on the chrome part if it is V10, V8, PSD, lariat XLT etc. but it's hard to read at any distance. You can also tell by the tailpipe. (and some people are changing the color of their vents)

I'm in a rural area 50 miles NW of Houston, and the local dealer (Lawrence Marshall) has 50 diesels for every 1 V-10 !!!. Unbelievable !!!

Talking V10 Sightings

Here in Alberta, Canada, the V10s are rare birds, this is PSD country for sure, I had to search to get my V10 Excursion. I am sure glad not to have the rattle at start-up and stinky all day hand after a fill up of the diesel! Diesel up here sells for $3.68 US/gallon and 87 octane is $4.58 US/gallon. But I am glad to support the refineries that keep me in business!

You won't find any V-10 trucks on dealers lots in the "green" states. They can't be sold because of emmisons. You also can't order a 5.4 with a stick. Its all in the ford to dealer new vehicle buying guide. Its been this way sice the 07 model year. I think it really stinks!

I thought they fixed that for the '08's?

Can't you still order a certain F350 with it?

What would stop me from buying a V10 in another state and bringing it home to NY ? Would I have to sell it to myself first so it's "used" ???

Hmph

Yea the V-10 was discontinued , Sad to see it go. I live i a green state and they were outlawed/gone forever after 06. I heard you can loose your driver licence just for thinking about a v-10 in c.a. NOT
