Im looking for motor mounts to convert 1991 f150 5.0l to a 351 m. Can 5.8l mounts be used I am also installing a 4 speed should 460 mounts be used for this. I would also like to put a sfa in my truck. Anyone done it..?
My post is in regards to 4x4's from experience of actually doing it, sooooo.....Not sure about 1991, but on my 1983 truck the frame mounts are the same between 302/5.0, 351w/5.8 and 351M/400. You can reference part numbers on www.partsamerica.com to see if they're the same between 1983 302, and 1991 302. If they're the same, then 4x4 351M/400 motor mounts will allow the engine to drop right in. You'll need an early 80's fuel pump(if going mechanical) with the inverted inlet to clear the crossmember. the 351M/400 can use the 460 bellhousing, and will keep everything in place, but a hydraulic clutch will have to be used, and if there's mounts for that, then the 351M/400 probably won't provide them, but I don't know.(1983 still had mounting holes for mechanical linkage) Good luck, and I/m not sure emissions will pass, if needed(I don't, yea) Again, this on 4x4's, and 2wd's may be different.
check the axle specific and offroad 4x4 forums for the sfa.
The 4spd should be interesting. I would pull the entire clutch linkage assembly from an older truck with the 4spd and the pedal assembly. With a little fancy fabricating to get the rod to work with your existing pedal. Either that or scrap the whole 4spd idea and start looking for a ZF 5spd that went behind a 460. The ones that mate to a windsor style motor have a different case so the bellhousing will be all wrong. Make sure its from a 460 application so that your bellhousing pattern will match. With the ZF you can use the existing hydraulic set up that you have and just plug the line into the slave cylinder like it is now. For the solid axle front end, take a look in the offroad forum. There was a post in there very recently about a guy who used Cage radius arms and a front diff out of a 78-79 F150 or Bronco. The solid axle swap in these trucks is actually fairly easy, and I am looking at doing that myself.
