Disable door dinger

I have a 1996 F150. Is there a way to disable the dinger that rings if the keys are in the ignition when the door is open? It drives me crazy!

Thanks
Paul

Yes. There is a box under the dash around the area behind the cubby hole with a wiring hardness going into it. Unplug it. NOT the light blue box with the foam sheet wrapped around it, thats your air bad module.

Ive got a 94 and wouldnt mind hooking mine back up. My dad "disabled" it when he had it. he dont remember if he cut the wires or unplugged a harness. he also busted out the button for the driver door being open(for the dome light to come on). can u post a picture of the setup of that box, or would mine be the same...?

For Wrecker, open your door and turn on your running lights to make it chime, then put your hand on different wiring harnesses under the dash; it vibrates every time it chimes, you'll feel it.

For 1994F150 you obviously can't use this technique, so just look for the wiring harness in the picture below. You'll notice that it is mounted on the back of the blue box that I mentioned earlier (airbag module). These are both located behind the cubby hole in the dash. The hardness that needs to be unplugged (or plugged back in) is that gray harness in the rear. And just ignore that extra mess of wires in the foreground, thats my really messy job at putting in a remote starter/keyless entry.

Haha, yeah that is typically what happens. Often times the advice that guys give to people on the forum who want to disconnect the chime goes something like "Find the chime, remove the harness, throw the module as FAR AS YOU CAN!!" Most guys don't like this chime if you couldn't already tell

Wow so my dad isnt the only guy who went nuts and ripped a portion of the dinger out? Well...maybe there is hope for him afterall. But anyways, a few years back the door switch for the dinger crapped out and stuck so the truck was CONSTANTLY dinging while driving...and as the dinging went on and on the vein in my dads head got bigger and bigger until he took a screw driver and ripped the switch right out and he was done with that. Oddly enough the switch has found its way onto my dresser in my room... I forgot what it was for a while.

But yeah I dont mind the dinger...when its supposed to ding. Its developed a mind of its own in the Flareside...it will go for months without dinging on startup, then out of the blue it will ding normally then it wont do it again for a long time. Ahh its just another one of those loveable quirks about the truck.

Now when my dad had a 94 XL it had a buzzer instead of a dinger, I thought the buzzer was way more annoying then the dings!

I always have my lights on . You'd think a 2 mile long white truck would stick out on green land scape . But I always get pulled out in front of . So it light and the digger tels me when I leave them on. But on most truck I just unplug it.
