I've been hinting here and there about some stuff i did to my truck, i was tired of my laggy 1.15 housing on my turbo. I've been eyeing the Turbonetics deal for a while and i decided to pull the trigger. I bought a set of IH bellowed pipes as when i was doing my donuts a month or two ago i saw the pipes were corroded and needed replacing. I sent the pipes to BWD and they ceramic coated them, along with a .84 housing and a High-flow outlet (HFO i call it). I got the turbo yesterday and started installing. Kevin thought i already had the TN turbo and just wanted to upgrade housings, so he only sent me the ceramic coated parts. The turbo was overnighted and got here yesterday. First impressions, this thing sounds ALOT cooler in the turbine whistle. Flutter is back because it's a .84 housing, but that doesnt bother me. There is more "whine" from the turbine and you can hear it spool down and up alot easier. I was easy on it (somewhat, hah) for a test drive, but wow this thing has NO lag. I could hear the tires clawing for traction as i goosed it from a stop, this thing spools faster than the boost guage can move in a linear fashion. It "jumps" now. I only had it to 20psi for a second and that was an accident because i didn't realize i was boosting that high. If i could pick a turbo based on it's sound, this would be it. I had every possible housing/wheel combination on my stock turbo, and this by far sounds the coolest. I have to go now, but i will be posting pics up around midnight and the uploading process isn't quite done yet. I do have lots of pics so be ready.
I wondered what you had been up to, with your hinting and all. I'm curious to know what kind of boost numbers that thing pushes, as well as backpressure numbers. How long till it's broken in? Oh, and of course some dyno/dragstrip comparisons are in order too.
congrats kris...im going to have to stop by one day at your house and listen to this thing...I like you living near me...you buy the stuff test it then if its good I go get it : )
HA I"LL C YA AROUND KRIS
Yeah Jeremy i want to dyno it, but unless i go pay for a dyno, it will have to wait to fall Brawl to get on the rollers. I dont know how long i should let it break in, but i've nudged 20psi a few times, kind of like break it in how you are going to use it, don't baby it is what i have been told by many. I don't think i'll be able to hit 30psi, but i did put it on the smoke setting (140) and mash the throttle at 2000 rpm, i did get 26psi very quickly and i let off. Did it again to measure backpressure, and it was only 3-4psi higher, about 46psi. Pics in a minute guys, i need to edit them and slap them up.
My video takes awesome live footage and awesome playback but when i upload it to the computer it is very distorted. When i go hillbilly deluxin' this weekend i may get some sound clips from my buddy's cam and possibly a traction-problem event on tape finally.
Ive noticed this event before, and its just terrible, the front brakes just dont want to seem to disengage, no matter how much you hit the throttle. Only sometimes though......
My buddy has several pictures, i keep wanting to go take pics of it but i don't get there in time to catch the sun up, so i will get some one day. I guarantee that i lost about 10,000 miles of tread in that one burnout. Dug two little ditches when i started, and the only reason i let off was 1400*+ egt and i didn't know how long to hold that. And the funny part was when i stopped, i pulled into his driveway and the tires were so hot it left a tread print up his driveway
$320ish just like everyone else. But i had $250 credit at the IH dealer, so it only cost me $70, which is mainly why i did them. I've had them for a while before the craze was in. I guess it was about $100 to have them coated.
Sweet, i wish mine looked like that. Did you ever resolve if you had a leak anywhere in your iduction or exhaust, i cant remember, probably fixed now.lol...Your probably pretty used to the BTS tranny too ya?
