I have a 2005 f-350 6.0 when i drive the truck it works great most of the time. But at least once a day the truck will do this and im going to do my best to explain it . I will take off hard from a stop ,my boost will go up to 30 psi but the truck has no power and when you let off the throttle you her a noise that sounds like ( and this is the best i can explain it ) if you would tap your trucks dash hard at first and slowly tap it lighter until the sound is gone, it last about 2-3 seconds after you let off the throttle . I have tried a different valve that goes into the turbo and a exaust pressure sensor neither helped . Any help would be great thanks Darren
If you spool up the turbo to 30psi and then chop the throttle, you are going to get "trubo fart" this is Normal. There is no place for the excess pressure to go except back out the air intake system. There is no "waste gate" on the truck since it has a VGT turbo. The VGT cannot respond fast enough to the backpressure must go somewhere, and that is back out the air intake.
Do you have a stock or A/M air intake?
How many miles on your truck and what mods do you have?
If you mash the throttle from a dead stop, you will get a power lag, do to turbo lag and drive by wire lag. The Boost gauge will go up before the rest the truck acutally takes off. If you want to launch hard from a dead stop, you need to power brake or do not mash the throttle to the floor. A steady press down on the pedal from a dead stop will get you going faster than mashing the pedal to the floor without power braking.
do you have a aftermarket airfilter? if so, first off they suck, second this is probably why you hear the turbo fart.
now, if you have stock airbox, your turbo is sticking and unfortunately you need a new one because i dont think you would want to sandblast your turbo. once again if you are stock, farting is not normal given you are driving and not power braking or showing off of some sort.

I agree!! my truck came with airaid and I couldn't hear turbo fart. after install of afe stage 2 could I hear it. went back to stock and there is no way I could hear it if I tried yet I've argued that point with guys on other sites. I mean, I got the 10 impeller vgt and you just can't hear it! lol
Every thing is stock on my truck, also last night when i was pulling my skid steer loader home on the interstate, at 60 mpg and i went up a hill and the slapping sound started again and every time i heard the sound my boost gauge would drop to about 5 psi and jump back up again
BTH -It didnt do it under steady power but you could tell the truck had no power and as soon as you let off just slightly it would make that noise and my boost gauge droped to next to nothing and i had a hard time regaining speed
have had some harness issues and alot of egrs cause this as well. the best way is to have a dealer's equipment on it monitoring the engine when it happens. thay way money is not throwed at the issue.

It is NOT normal. 30psi is not normal on a stock truck. The turbine is overspeeding therefore creating more boost than design. I would say bad EP sensor, but since it was replaced I would look at the VGT possibly sticking,

A waste-gated turbo's speed is controlled by waste-gate position during acceleration(close(ing)) and during decelleration(open(ing)), If the VGT turbo if working correctly it does the same thing as a waste-gated turbo does (control turbine speed) by the position of the turbines vanes, acceleration (close(ing)) decelleration (open(ing)).
The air-management system is obviously more complicated on the 6.0 than the 7.3 but if working correctly like mine works on my truck you will NOT here the chopper blade sound being described nor can you (overspeed the turbine) over-boost the turbo.
The VGT will "open" and "close" quickly enough (oil actuated) to control turbine speed and boost if the air management system is working correctly.
I would suggest FEEPE you find a good service tech and have your truck repaired. The noise you describe is not normal.
