not in my truck, but 66 mustang 289, my son put new plugs in for me, but put platinum tip..it has a standard dist with a pertronix and stock coil..I've always used just standard Autolite 45s, any problem with this??? thanks
no they just tend to last longer is all. copper is a better conductor for electricity then platinum. the newer vehicles like them better but for our older v8's just dont take well to them.
that gap seems small as well. shouldnt it be more like .044?

thats the factory gap for the 289 with standard plugs..thanks for your input
Platinums are for Ignitions that fire twice on each cycle, the spark jumps opposite the second time I've heard, that keeps the platinum bouncing back and forth between the terminals so the plugs don't burn out as quickly.

thanks, that makes sence, I've heard about ignitions that do that but its beyond my realm of thought...I still can't see how you could change polarity to do that..my auto technology is way behind the times
