trans growl
besides my br2 i also have a 95 explorer..when its in gear it makes a grinding growling kinda sound..take it out of gear and it stops..i been pulling my boat with it and i take it out of overdrive when i do..any ideas of what could be causing the noise??is it a bad sign??its been doing this for quite a while,at least a couple weeks maybe much longer but i just noticed it a ccouple weeks ago..any ideas would be appreciated..tia

Where does it sound like it's coming from? Any signs of leaks from the transmission or differential(s)? You should probably check your transmission fluid level as well as differential lubricant level(s). Sounds like maybe you're low on fluid / lubricant somewhere. Another strange possibility is that your starter isn't completely tightened down. Does it grind at all while attempting to turn the engine over? Might be a sign.
