My 2000 ranger XLT extended cab 4 dr model with 3.0L, auto and 2 wd, seems to take a long time to shift up into overdrive. Sometimes it will go a mile or more at 55 before upshifting and the least bit of push on the go pedal it is out of overdrive. Is this normal for this set up? I have an 88 Camaro with 2.8 auto, and it shifts into overdrive very quickly and stays there until I really press down on the go pedal.
Also what is average gas milage for this truck?
Thanks JIM
Use OBD tool, check for codes. If everething is OK, see when the valve is engaded in Actual Values and what condition are required to engage it. Sometimes sensors on engine cause this problem.
My Dad has the same truck, does the same thing. Just lift you foot off the gas {a little}when you get to the speed you went, it will lock the torque converter. The 5 speed autos are real touchy.
When's the last time the tranny fluid was changed?
It has done this since I bought it in 2003. It had 9700 miles on it when I bought it in Oct. of 03, did not put it on road till May of 04, I don't know it fluid was changed by O/O or not, I know I have not done it. I have about 59000 miles on it now and that include 2 trips to Texas and back about 2300 each way and alot of shorter trips of 500 miles or so. I will look into changing the fluid, although the fluid is not burnt and the color is good. Thanks JIM
