Well, it is not like it is the only Explorer on earth, so I will just keep looking. This one seemed like the perfect one except for the red paint. Glad it died while in the dealer's possession instead of mine though The dealer is going to call me in a couple of weeks and let me know what else comes in. Right now the only 4x4's he has are full size Suburbans, and I don't want anything that big. Now if a Ranger were to come in...
The dealer has offered the Explorer to me "As is" for $1,000. I have checked with a local wrecking yard and can get a complete front axle for $110. Paying a neighbor to install it, counting on gas expenses and tow dolly rental I can get it up and running for about $1,600. Very tempting.
So what are they saying is wrong with it? If they're suddenly letting it go that cheap, I wouldn't trust it for a second, especially after all this bull..
The only thing wrong with it (at this point in time) is that both front axles are broken, and the differential is broken. Something broke in the differential that caused the two axles to snap. Yeah, I am having second and third thoughts about it. I like the idea of getting it for $1,000 and only spending an additional six or seven hundred on it to get it running, but the downside is that by doing it that way I have to come up with the entire amount. I doubt he will finance the $1,000 and half of the six or seven hundred is needed just to get it up here. The only amount I can put off until later is the buying of the complete axle, and the paying of the labor to install it.
At this point...Id pass on it and just keep what ya got....you coould take the money you were gonna put into the Exploder and get the old one runnin like a top...then the gas mileage would probably go up on it. Or just look for a better deal on something else.

I am beginning to have the same feelings. I keep leaving messages on his answering machine, and e-mailing him but get no response. He still has my $380, and I need to get that back.
Just get your money back and end the deal there. If you're patient, I'm sure you'll find a decent Ranger or Explorer in working condition. It just seems like the dealer is trying to unload a problem vehicle on you. Probably just isn't worth it for them to do all the repairs, and still pull in a decent profit.
I understand why he would not want to fix it. Right now I am havign a problem getting a hold of him. I am still trying to get the $380 back. Another thing that makes me mad is tha tthe $46 ispent on the Greyhound tickets is non refundable. We never even had the tickets. Just bought them online, and was going to pick them up at the station when we got there. However, they state that since we got the companion discount the tickets are non refundable. We can use them up to a year from now if we pay an additional $20. That is a total joke, and I refues to ever ride a Greyhound again.
