Question Pitman arm bolt size?

Pretty simple here:

I want to know the size of the nut that holds the pitman arm to the steering gear box. I have a 1 1/4" & 32mm, but neither are big enough. Is it a 34mm, 36mm, 1 3/8", or 1 1/2"?

To add insult to injury I have already snapped one of the 3 bolts that mounts the gear box to the frame. The first one I tried wouldn't budge, so I give it some lube and get the "breaker bar" out. Well it broke all right. So if anyone has a parts truck I could use several things if they will fit an 88'. Thanks

Ford lists the hardware number for the nut: 380771-S it's NOT metric.

EDIT: the nut size (not the wrench size) 7/8" -14

IDK what that part number is supposed to mean, but you are sure it is metric?

I just edited...I meant to say NOT metric. The number is 380771-S. It's the same nut as used on the F100/350's. I'll look some more for the size...brb

Metric hardware part numbers begin with a letter, usually an N. Non metric numbers begin with a number only.

???? Wait, now I am really confused...... Are you saying it is a 7/8" nut? It is WAY bigger than that. The 1 1/4" socket and 32mm almost fit, but not quite. That is why I thought it might be 34-36mm or 1 3/8-1 1/2".

I'm sorry to cloud the issue, but the illustration in the 1980/89 truck parts catalog shows the nut threading onto the steering sector shaft, thus holding the Pitman arm on. The text section under the steering gear box shows the hex nut and the size.

Update: sort of

Well I got back to Sears to return the sockets that were too small, and the biggest standard socket they have in stock is a 1 1/4" (too small), and the biggest metric they have is a 36mm (too big). For some reason the sizes jumped from 29mm, 30mm, 32mm, 36mm.....???? Where is the 34mm!!!!!!!!!!!!

So now I know I need something between a 32mm & 36mm like 33mm, 34mm, 35mm. Or in standard size I need something between a 1 1/4" & 1 1/2" like 1 5/16", 1 3/8", 1 7/16".

The big problem is I can't find these sizes in the stores, and not much luck finding it online either. Do I have to chase a guy in either a Snap-On, or Matco truck?

For anyone that is interested, or for future reference:

You can buy a 1 5/16" boxed/open end wrench at Sears for ~$27. I did manage to get a hold of a dial caliper that you can measure inside/outside diameters with. The nut specs out at ~33mm. A perfect fit would be an "axle nut" impact socket of 33mm, but the wrench will do too. It is a little large since 1 5/16" is aprox 33.3mm.

Also as a side note - DO NOT try to get the gear box back in place by yourself. If you get the steering shaft lined up with the gear box input shaft then you just got lucky. Trust me you need another set of hands up top to help guide it in.
