Power steering leak ??
I have a 96 F-150 4 X 4, Inline 6, 5 spd OD, 122,000 miles
I have checked each hose and the fittings on each end, No leaks or holes anywhere.
I laid down on the ground under my truck and noticed alot of wetness right next to the steering box and back onto my frame and radius arm where it has creeped to.
Is something broken or loose ??
Is there a seal thats gone bad ??
Is this something that can be fixed without taking out a loan ??
Any info is very helpful.
First did you check line with truck running and someone cranking steering wheel . I had a pin hole in one of the lines once and you wouldn't see leak/hole till under presure when it would spray out.
GOOD LUCK LOST

I did not see any leaks in either line but the fluid on the framerail did increase in volume.
Thats what led me to ask about the seals in the steering box.
This stuff did the job for me and it quiets down the pump whining too.
Last i checked it was available at NAPA also.

I'll try the Lucas PS stuff for a week or so and see if it gets better.
If Not, I'll go with a new one.
I was able to get the truck into a local garage and they put it up on the lift to see where it was leaking from.
Mechanic confirmed that a seal went in the steering box.
They can replace the steering box and charge me around 275.00 or I can do it in my driveway for part cost and time.
I called the local Pepboys a few blocks away and they have one for 149.00, Lifetime warranty. Only thing that made me swallow hard was the 140 dollar core charge. Looks like part comes out first so I can make sure it matches right and not have to pay a core when I get it.
We'll see what the next week or 2 brings first with the leak sealer, Then think about replacement.
