79 Camper Special

Gentlemen,

Firstly, this is my first posting, so I am looking forward to some good reading.

Secondly, I tried to see if my question has been answered elsewhere, so I would not waste your time answering yet another 'same old question'.

I have had a 79 Camper Special for sometime and personally have not seen to many like it and I was wondering if they (Ford) made a number of them in this configuration or rather was this a common factory built configuration:

Model Year: 79

Series: F250 - 4x2 Chassis & Cab

Engine: 8 Cyl, 460ci (7.5L) 4bbl

Assembly Plant: San Jose

Transmission: Automatic, Ford C6

Front Axle: P.S.

Rear Axle: 4.10 5300lb Dana 60

</pre>
Thanks in advance to your answers.

Krucible

Ford doesn't do this configuration since it's a chassis/cab.

Ford made the chassis and cab, then shipped to a RV company to fit the camper body on the chassis.

Is this what you have? A camper bolted down to the chassis, rather than in the factory bed?

No Sir, there is no camper attached to the truck. The model is a F250 Camper Special.

Welcome to FTE

A Cab & Chassis configuration comes without a bed. Post the VIN...that will answer the question if your truck was shipped as a Cab & Chassis, or with a Styleside bed.

For the record: Camper Specials used Styleside beds only. A Cab and Chassis or a Flareside is not a Camper Special.

To answer your question.
Yes they made thousands of them.

I want to see the VIN because some people don't know what chassis cab means.

Camper special standard equipment.This includes the Styleside bed. ( not chassis terminology)

So you have a styleside box as well ?

you see F25 is NOT a chassis cab code.

F27 is.

You can see everything here on my page.

http://www.clubfte.com/users/mil1ion...ruckCodes.html

What is the 3 rd digit in the BODY Code on the rating plate.

It should be a 4.

I also find that 4.10 gear a little tall for a 460.

3.54's or 3.73's would be plenty

You should be able to drag a ship across the desert with that combo

F25 = Series Code = F250 2WD PICKUP. A pickup is defined as having a bed, a Cab and Chassis is not what your truck was shipped as.

If your truck was shipped as a Cab and Chassis, the series code would be F27, not F25.

Post ALL the numbers off your VIN plate. Mil1ion and I can decode all the info. Mil1ion is a faster typist, and has refs at the ready, so he'll prolly beat me to it.

I'm using microfiche . He's not....

off the cuff...so I don't have to squint at a microfiche slide!

Axle 24J

24 = 4.10-1 Rear axle ratio, Dana 60, 5300 lb axle capacity.

J = Power steering

DSO = 74 = Seattle...the truck was ordered from the Seattle Zone Office.

Plus I have my memory

133 - 133" Wheelbase

Body - DR4,
D - Kint & Vinyl bench
R= Jade in color
4- Styleside box

Trans - K, - automatic = C6

Common...except for the 4.10 Rear axle - Yes !

from my page I linked to..you can see the axle ratio options.

133 wheelbase, and the K trans code, I knew off the cuff, too...but I figured you'd beat me to it, since I'm the world's worst typist...and have to correct all the typos, so I posted what I could, as fast as inhumanly possible.

Ah, ok, thanks. The 79 truck brochure and 78 explorer brochure just call it chain mail.
