fault code p1401

Did you also have evap system trouble code/s, like a p0457, loose or leaking gas cap, ect, too????

Am I mis-reading, or missing, or mistakenly inferring something here, the way I read CheezKake's posting, a loose/faulty gas cap was causing a P1401 DPFE code & I don't think I've ever heard of a loose gas cap causing that code.

A loose or damaged gas cap sure can trip a number of evap system codes like a P0457, ect, though.

Blackwidow1, or CheezKake, for clarification of the record, so someone else reading this thread isn't confused about what all was done, can you post all the trouble codes you had.

Anyway, good to hear it's all put right & "your on the road again"!!!!!

Sure thing...in all honesty, it's kinda weird how everything just showed up as a P1401...but, here's the list they gave us.

-EGR Temperature Sensor
- Open or Short Circuit Condition
- Poor Electrical Connection
- Failed EGR Temperature Sensor
- Blocked EGR Passages

That's it, all 12 problems they gave us. Listed are the problems themselves, and the probable causes they gave us.

OK, good feedback CheezeKake, now I understand & as I finally suspected, you didn't have just one trouble code, but were simultaneously chasing a multitude of them.

In the future it would be helpful for anyone reading this tread & working more than one problem at a time, or having more than one computer trouble code, to post ALL the known code numbers, or problems, as this can often help a board give you a better more accurate interperation of your problem/s & maybe be able to suggest a shorter & more accurate trouble shoot.

Blackwiddow, the reason the trouble light didn't go out when you replaced the DPFE, was because you still had other problems.

The only way to know if the P1401 was fixed, would have been to rescan the computer for trouble codes & see if it was still there after the DPFE was replaced & the computers memory was erased.

You sort of went about it another way, by the DPFE substitution, in another like vehicle & when the DPFE worked ok in it, then CheezeKake probably suspected the new one was ok & you still had other problems.

Thats when I finally begin to wake up & suspect you were working other problems also.

This will help anyone with a P1401 trouble code & reviewing this thread, to not be confused and think by replacing a gas cap, they could fix a P1401.

Replacing the gas cap, fixed some of the remaining Evap System trouble codes you had, it had NOTHING to do with fixing the P1401 DPFE code. Replacing the DPFE sensor likely fixed that code imo.

For additional clarification, if you like & would post the parts you've replaced & the trouble code "Numbers" you were given, we could probably group them together & sort of give you & others with a P1401 code, that are reviewing this thread, an idea of how to form up & group your suspect list, when troubleshooting by computer trouble code.
