runaway idle

Have 1988 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4 FI . Idle unusually low for several months then one afternoon leaving the job the idle was extremely high . Mechanic replaces the iac . Runs ok then it takes off again . Mechanic says " dunno ". Anyone have this problem happen ?

Welcome to the forum

Try scanning for codes. Could be a vacuum leak or possibly the throttle stop screw is in too far. Could even be a bad TPS sensor.
