Just got a beautiful 2007 CC Lariat Outlaw and I'm wondering what gauges do I really need? it has a boost gauge, is it accurate enough? I'm assuming the Tranny temp gauge is a glorified idiot light? So would a Tranny Temp and Pyro Gauge do it? planning mild mods, but love the idea of knowing whats going on.

This might help. Even thought the factory boost is pretty accurate...I explain why I installed an aftermarket boost gauge on my 07.
I think the stock gauge is accurate enough from what i gather, mine is about to get pyro & trans temp, still got to figure out where i want to mount them too.
BTW you did get a beautiful truck, i have a Lariat Outlaw too, and i love it.
If your fine with the granularity of the factory boost gauge in addition to the location then pyro, and trans would be the minimum.
A delayed signal inaccurate by 3 psi makes for awful hard troubleshooting when your looking for a problem, or trying to custom tune. Especially when 1 psi of boost is a big difference in load applied to the engine. Well reason enough to get the standard 3 gauge package, Boost, EGT, Trans. If you don't tow or plan on towing, get oil temp or water temp instead. Or possibly fuel pressure if you are into big HP mods.
pyro left & right & turbine outlet, boost, trans temp & oil pressure, fuel pressure is helpful as well (but not as important as the others)IM(not so)HO.

Yeah, it wasn't on my list but when I saw it...it's a real looker! IMHO
I asked a good friend of mine who as it happens is a ford tech. He said that the tranny guage is pretty accurate. I trust his opinion, and he has no reason to lead me astray or let me damage my truck. Although he is my friend he is not my service writer's tech so he does not work on my vehicles. This is why I believe he is telling me straight. He said the only guage needed on the 05 and newer trucks is the pyro if you are going to tow heavy 8-10k plus. If you are going to modify your truck then I agree with mrxlh that it would be wise to get the standard three pack to monitor more closely your readings. But if no major mods are present and you aren't going to tow the factory guages should suffice.
Yep...the factory tranny guage is a dummy guage...Cold, Normal, and Hot. By the time it reaches hot it's too late. An aftermarket tranny guage will let you see this coming and take the necessary measures to prevent damage...most definately needed if you tow heavy.

The boost I can see the argument for, but the tranny, water temp, and oil pressure are all not very reliable. The tranny temp has stayed in one spot during an entire 10 1/2 hr trip I took(one of the few times I wasn't pulling during this trip), the factory gauge never budged and the aftermarket one started below 100 and by the time it was done was at 189-190, factory at the same spot, how is that accurate? Water temp, factory after a few minutes stays in one spot, and the aftermarket one startes below 100 and I've seen it get up to 210, while the factory gauge never budged. Oil pressure, from what I have heard the factory one will register in the middle if it passes and stays above 7 psi, other then that it never moves, while the aftermarket one fluctuates depending on the throttle, once again, factory doesn't really seem to be all that accurate(and I'm not talking about hauling either, this happens when your just out cruising).
