Not sure if this has been brought up, but a coworker has an 05 F250 and the warning bell keeps on dinging with his door open and his keys are out of the switch. It keeps dinging until he closes the doorMy 05 F250 don't. Is that normal? And can you shut it off?
There is a wire in the steering column you can cut and that will disable the chime. Did you buy yours used? If so, the previous owner probably cut that wire.
Take a look at this post. About half way down, Beerstalker gives very good details on how to do this:
The coworker and mine were brand new. His chimes all the time and mine only when the key is on. Thanks for the info will relay it to him. Gonna tell him to take it to dealer and have them fix it.
It is not normal, he needs to take it in to get it repaired unless he wants to take the above recommendation and diable it completely. I have seen this happen from time to time, usually on older vehicles. The contact in the ignition cylinder that gets triggered when the key is inserted is probably stuck so it thinks the key is in all the time.
I apologize Murfman. I mis-read your original post, and thought it said "while the keys are in the switch". As others have said, there is a problem somewhere and he should either have it looked at or disable it completely. If is is still under warranty, I would have it repaired, as who knows what is causing it and what else it may start affecting later.
Thanks for the info. I thought there was something wrong also and told the owner to get it checked. Haven't talked to him since. Am curious to what it was.
