I am about to cut the hole for my hoodscoop from JBG. I got the 100.00 one with the studs built into it (it resembles the old 429 mustang hoodscoop) anyway my plan to cut the hole was to let the hood come down on the aircleaner stud and then take the air cleaner lid off and use it as a template on top of the hood. Well after measuring I have 22.5 inches from the fender to the hood scoop on the driver side and 20.5 inches on the passenger side. So If I cut the hole I wouldnt be centered on the hood. Any ideas? O and whats the best way to cut the hole? I have my dremmel.... that might take a while though
I installed the same scoop last summer. You're right in that the hole won't center in the middle of the hood, but you can still center the scoop on the hood, which is what I did. The hole will be about an inch or so offset to the passenger's side.
I just drilled a starter hole along the inside edge of the circle I scribed with a marker and used a regular jig saw. It got wild when I was cutting through multiple thicknesses and especially when the ribs were spaced away from the hood itself, but I just took my time and it all worked out well.
I got the hoodscoop last wed from JBG which was a crock, because they sent me the wrong one. I told them my story: I put a new intake and carb on monday and tuesday, expecting the correct hoodscoop. Then when they send me the wrong one and I cant close the hood on my daily driver. That creates a big problem for me. They wouldnt over night me one. so they sent it ground I have had to get a ride to work everyday for a freakin week now. Thats pretty lame when your 24 years old. But I got the new one today and it wet well till I ran out of cutting discs at 9:30 for the dremmel. So again I get to get a ride to work for one last day hopefully.... I am done with JBG there service is crappy and they werent even nice to me on the phone.
I'd cut it with a saber saw and make the hole a little bigger around than the air cleaner, then center the scoop on the hood. Unless, of course you won't be able to see the air cleaner anyway, then it doesn't matter how large the hole is. Actually I hate to see a good stock hood ruined, myself. They do make a nice, one piece fiberglass hood for them, but I can't remember who or where. Probably get one from James Duff or Bronco Graveyard and save the stocker for if you ever sell it to someone who wants a stock appearing Bronco.

Couldn't you have removed the hood for a couple of days?
could have yea, but i work till about 930 at night and its kinda hard to find a set of hands round here at that hour. Not to mention weve had tornado warnings all week and its been raining like a siv. It did cross my mind though. Kinda off subject but, Rcrawler if you get a chance sometime soon can you write up a "how to" on the install part of a front axle swap to follow up with the removal we had been talkin about. No hurry or anything, your just real good at explaining things to some of us newer to the bronco game
Yeah, no problem. I figured that you already had it done so I kinda forgot about it. I'll work on it this weekend.
I started a new job about a month ago working for a construction company. There have have been a lot of 6 day, 15 hrs a day so I haven't had much spare time for anything else. On top of that, I am in the process of closing on a house and trying to get ready for a move (hopefully for the last time).
I understand how that goes we start at 7 am till around 8 or 9 at night. Long days but the overtime really helps on bronco parts. haha. I have the 44 all painted and im just about ready to get Wildhorses radius arms I have everything else so in the next month or so... Thanks for the good info, the one you wrote on removal was awesome

I thought that too, then I flashed back to my highschool days when a buddy and myself were ripping around in his street rod with no hood.
A King County cop pulled us over and gave us a warning.
We were like "We didn't know hoods were required".
His response was "Why the h*ll do you think they put them on there for in the first place"
I don't think there is a law for not having a hood. Otherwise, there would be a lot of pre war street rods getting wrote up for them. I ran around for years with one of my pickups that didn't have a hood. It was only bad when it rained .

While searching for seat belt requirements I ran across this Washington law regarding hoods on vehicles:
