I just bought a 99 F250 7.3L that is all stock. I will be doing the first oil change Friday and have been researching what oil these like best. I had decided and purchased the Delo 400 15-40 with the motorcraft filter. A friend then told me his Dad had problems with the engine stalling when running Delo 400 and that others had experienced this. Is this a common problem? Thanks in advance.
I've been running Valvoline premium blue for years in my Powerstrokes. I switched four oil changes ago to Rotella just to see if I could get some "black" oil out of it every 3000 miles....didn't think that the Premium Blue was doing any detergent work since my oil kept coming out just as light colored as when I put it in. Turns out that I lost some MPG with the Rotella. Oil never came out dark with it, either. Back to Premium Blue. Seems to start better AND I got some MPG back.
delo 400 here. just changed it last weds. As i just picked up the truck tuesday night. Could just be me but it sounds to me like it runs smoother and makes less noise. Or it could also be the DK i put in at the same time along with the fuel filter change. also running motorcraft filter.

I'll give my vote, but it's for Schaeffers oil. I've been running the 9000 (5-40 synthetic) for the past several months, and I swear the truck has been running smoother and stronger since I switched oil. My UOA's come back good, and the Schaeffers is a reccomended oil on the BITOG (Bob is the Oil Guy) forum.
I used delo 400 for about the first 55K on my 99.. worked OK.. The only problem I had was on cold start up, ever in the summer time. Everytime the engine would romp, romp if i did not let it idle for a 5 minutes or so.. But, ever since changing to Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40, the engine has never romped since.. I am sticking to Shelll Synthetic.. You can stretch the oil changes abit, so it compensates for the added $.. Walmart has a good price on Shell.. It also alot better for your turbo, so they say..
