I have seen this issue in several different forums but never see a resolution. At time the Power windows will not function and the 4WD Hi and LO flash 6 times then go off, then repeat about a few minutes later.
The power window assembly is not getting power. I have checked and replaced the fuses to rule out that it is a fuse issue. In one forum one person stated a relay inside the driver door, but none was to be found. You can tell this is not a ground issue becuase you can run a hot lead straight to the Blue/black main on the power window control and the windows function properly. You can rule out a fuse issue cause at the same time the power windows are not functioning the 4WD is not functioning either and they are on seperate fuses. The Battery Save Relay which is one of the common points for this has been replaced and still having the issue. Anyone know the other common relays and GEMs these share as well as locations? I would prefer not to tear the truck apart just looking for the relays if some one knows the location.
I just replied to the message you sent me with the details of what was causing my problem. Sounds like yours is a different cause though, if your fuse isn't blowing. Our '96 had a relay up under the dash that was part of the circuit that was causing our problems. Before I discovered the short in the wiring that was causing our problems, I tried replacing that relay to see if it helped. It didn't in our case, but it might be worth checking on yours. I don't remember now the name of the relay, but it was way up under the dash on the drivers side in a black plastic box that had a top that snapped off. I think there were a couple of relays in that box, and I don't remember now which one it was. If you can find some wiring diagrams you can hopefully track it down.
i got your reply. I found it in an old post. I was the accessory delay relay...which is #4 in the relay block under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Replaced that and all is well....with the windows that is.
