[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Dec-02 AT 11:07 PM (EST)]I own a 97 F350 crew cab, 4X4, Powerstroke,Automatic. Stock exhaust. I tow a 8000 Lb. Boat. What chip would fit this application? Also would you suggest a upgrade to the tranny. Larger than stock trans. cooler?
This stuff is all new to me....
8000lbs is actually pretty light duty for a Power Stroke and the stock trans cooler should work just fine with it. We've had customers tow twice that much (and more ). How often do you tow the boat? Year round?
I tow it only in the summer months. But last summer after a 5 hour tow , when I arrived at the dock, the tranny started to leak fluid out the inspection cover under the converter.( I lost one quart) It has not leaked since.I think it got hot, maybe blew thru the front seal.I already decided to install a trans. temp gauge.
Would one of the superchip's give me added preformance?
Server problems this morning (down for 5+ hours) and when people call here, they have to talk to me, not someone else ---> I'm swamped so replies are delayed.
Any way.... any of our chip products will work for your applications (pretty average use). Since you're not towing often and not much weight I recommend the Superchips Microtuner. Keep it in the appropriate setting and change it now and then. If you did a lot of towing, or heavier towing, or wanted on the fly switching for some other reason than I'd say go with the Diablo Delta chip.
As to the tranny, we've got a lot of customers who tow much more without a problem. I'd suspect a bad seal from the factory. The guage will tell you about the temp, but it won't tell you the condition of the original seal. Remember, that truck is spec'd to handle a lot more with stock equipement! :-)
