I had all four replaced in the past year. Never did the truck show any sign of a problem. The was no wander, pull, chunch, tire wear, or any other symptom. The way I found was jacking up the truck and with a long bar and a block of wood pry under the tire and watch to see how much play is in the joint. If you can see it move......time for replacement.
I would not recommend FORD replacement ball joints. Get a good quality regreasable replacement.
I have moogs on the lefts and tried to have moogs on the right but the joint was too darn right and the truck was a bear to drive and ended up putting Fords back in on the right.

The Moogs loosen up after a couple of hundred miles. My truck felt tight and had some wander until they settled down a bit.
