I took the top of the bronco and was wondering if Ford still sell the clips ad bolts since i had to break a bolt to get the top off. these are the clips with the nuts that go in the bed rail. it an 89 full size. thanks for any help.
You are going to have to look at a picture in the parts catalog at your local dealer. On Bronco's after 1979, there are three types of bolts shown, two are metric, and two different clips. One is metric, one isn't.
ok thanks, so the dealers still carry them? that was my main concern for the winter time and putting the top back on.
I don't know if the dealers can still get them or not. Ford changed 1000's of hardware part number suffixes several years ago because they changed the package quantity and the old numbers won't work on online locator websites.
If you are only missing 1 or 2 I would not worry about it. I do not think i ever got them all back in when I was repalcing the top every winter. Never leaked or blew off.
old, blue, my top has only been held on with 3-4 bolts for the last 5 years - no leaks. you can go down to the loal hardware store and buy new bolt that ren't security torx and replace them with standard bolts. the clips i wouldn't worry about unless you really want to put all the trim back on in the fall just to take it all off again the following spring
Mine also has been on with only six bolts for three years now.I remove the top every chance I get. We had a week where there was little to no chance of rain then one night a storm blew up fast so I ran out and my son and I just set it on real fast then went inside. The next morning got up and had a brain fart and just drove off.Drove thirty miles at 75 and never heard or felt any indication that I forgot to bolt it down. When I got to the store I got out and then it hit me I just got lucky as hell. Try JeffsBroncoGraveyard.com they have the whole set for 40.00 last I looked.
You could also try looking in salvage yards. I know the ones out here are full of top bolts. I have purchased them for my 88 before. I tried just using four bolts to hold mine on once but when I would take turns of have a rough trail it would creek and make noise like no other! It just about drove me insane until I put them all back on.
would someone post a picture of these "nuts"(clips)that are in the bed rails. i dont want to take off the top if i cant get it back on! i noticed some clip types at the local non-chain hardware store and i think they might be correct. and thanks in advance for posting
