Hi I have a 2001 F150 7700 4X4 with a 5.4 4 speed automatic. I was thinking about going with a chip (diablo) or a hypertech tunner (or some type of tunner) If I go with a chip (diablo) and take the truck in for service and they flash (i think is what the other post said) the computer I have to send it in for reprograming correct? But I was wondering if you can take them out before taking it in to be serviced and put them back in afterwards? If so will that make it so I don't have to send it back in? Also would I want to do all my changes (exhaust and air filter etc.) that I am thinking of doing before purchase and tell you what I have done for best results? Thanks James Pangborn
If we can use a 4 bank chip for your ECU code then reflashing is not an issue. For most 1999 and newer we can provide a 4 bank chip. For a gas vehicle intake and exhaust changes are not needed.
do you meant that I don't have to tell you what I am planning on or have done before ordering or that the air filter and exhaust wouldn't make any big improvments over stock with a chip? Will this void my warranty in anyway? Is it just a new ECM that I can put in and take out as I desire (If I have to send it in for service remove it). Thanks Again James
Intakes and exhausts have zero impact on how the chip is programmed. Installation of the chip does not void the warranty but as with any aftermarket part if they can prove the part caused damage they can deny that claim only.
For example, you can use an AC/Delco motor oil filter on your truck without voiding the warranty (its illegal to void it). However, if the filter bursts and your engine spins a bearing from oil loss then Ford does not have to cover that repair.
