I Scored a set of Late Model Wheels for cheap today! I know there is a bolt patern difference that changed somewhere in the 90's, So I don't need that information.
My question is if anyone has ever had these wheels modified to fit? Can that be done? Or how would one modify the truck's lug pattern to the modern metric size.
I'm just throwing this out there to people who have done this kind of thing before. If you have useful information, Thank you in advance!
Adapters are available, but they cost quite a few dollars. Even trying to change the bolt pattern on the hub is going to cost some money.
Adapters cost $100.00 each, and a set of hubs with new studs just over that.
A nice new set of wheels can be bought for the same or less than $100.00 ea.
Even if you got new late model wheels for free, it would cost more to bolt them up than new ones would. Ones that actually fit.
Yeah, I think I will try to resell them, and put the money directly towards a new set of wheels with the correct bolt pattern. I found an old post where a member said he knew a shop that could put steel inserts in and re-do the pattern. I wonder how that would work. But I don't think I will bother anyways...
OK, so These are the wheels, I've looked into adapters, they are pricey, but there aren't many aftermarket wheels catching my fancy. So being one that always has to have other's approval what do you think of these wheels? Sorry if this is a pic of your truck, it's how mine should look when done (but slightly less 4x4ish)
Do these look like they are worth it? BTW with the 2" adapters, the wheels will fit just inside the fender wells, so they should look ok.
5-lug will work, SD wheels WILL NOT! Ford went to a metric bolt pattern in 99 for the new Super Duty's. The wheel's won't fit the old standard 8 on 6.5" pattern.
yes - F-150 wheels went from 5x5.5" to 5x135mm in 97, and the 8 lugs changed in 99.
You don't HAVE to run a spacer to run these wheels. From the pic they look like they are the aluminum wheels off an excursion. If so you can take them to a good wheel place and they should be able to drill them and use steel inserts to change the lug pattern. We do this to run the nice alcoa wheels everybody takes off of the newer superdutys on the older fords and chevys.
If I remember correctly it costs about $25 per wheel.
