Just got truck 4 days ago. Its a 88 f250 w 460 and auto trans. Since I got it
I've used it to haul all kinds of stuff. I love having a truck. Yesterday though
I had a scare. I was at a stop light and noticed a pretty good amount of
smoke coming out from under the hood. I know its leaking oil 10 quarts in
since thursday. And I'm praying that it doesn't just all go up at once. Anyway
I get it home and sleep on it. I'm thinking to myself It's got to be a oil filter
that got double gasketed or whatever. Its easy to check and filters are
cheap. I go to change the filter and can't! The filter wrench won't clear the
cross member. wtf! I get a flash light out and the filter is into the crossmember. I jack up the engine and see fresh looking oil. So now I know
what's leaking, but what to do to fix it. What is cheaper new engine mounts
or a oil filter relocation kit?
For me it isn't a question of which is cheaper. I would replace mounts and then I would not need to relocate the oil filter. Not replacing the mounts is not a very good option.
Good Luck Frank
update. Put in the new engine mounts, still have oil filter touching crossmember.
Remove filter housing install new o-rings and have buddy hold filter in right position
while I tighten bolt. Main oil leak fixed!!
