I took My 1991 E150 Econline Van in for an Alignment today, They said that the King Pins needed replaced in the Right Front and would not do the Alignment. What are the King Pins?? I have looked in My Manual and they are not listed. Are they called something else? Is it something I can do or should I have somebody do them?
Better look at the procedure in a manual first. If your's doesn't show king pins try another manual. Don't forget many libraries loan many manuals & have larger shop manuals in their reference sections. IMO king pins can be more difficult than exhaust manifolds & much more difficult than good fitting headers, depending on the vehicle. Since you deal with critical suspension components errors could result in serious control issues, whereas errors installing manifolds & headers might make noise or leak exhaust. Also if you get it apart & can't get it back together right, you might not even be able to roll the vehicle.
The 1975/91 Econolines are essentially the same vehicle. The first real change from 1975 occured in 1992. Besides having all new sheet metal, they have a new front suspension which no longer uses kingpins.
