Ok, Here's another one.......I have an F450. At the rear of the truck, on ht e drivers side, attached to the frame there is a ig roun "Thing" in a steel frame. Thos round "Thing" sort of seems to be a sort of Harmonic Dampener??? Any clues?? It has not wires, hoses, belts or anything else, it just seems to semi rotate back and forth...???? What is it????

That’s the thinga magigi that makes the hoosamafatsy go
That was the scientific term.
Ford did a really smart thing by putting the oil filter onto of the engine next to the fuel filter. This came from the 6.0L. No more removing the oil filter underneath the vehicle and getting soaked by hot oil.
But don't you still have to be under the engine to drain the pan anyway?
Yep, but removing the oil plug is less messy than the Oil filter. When I removed the oil filter on my 7.3's I always got an arm full of hot oil. That is until I started popping a hole in the base of the filter to let the oil drain. Putting the oil filter on top of the engine next to the fuel filter was a very good idea in my opinion. I never got hot oil all over may arms when I replace the oil on the 6.0.
That's only one of the fuel filters (remember, the 6.4 has two), the other one is underneath the truck on the frame rail in the water seperator.
Hi Mattebury,
Actually the 7.3 and 6.0 have the same type of filter under the driveside frame as well. You usually end up wearing all the diesel fuel when you change them. The 6.4 has a nice valve you can open to "Nicely" drain the fuel.
I can hardly wait for my truck to show up so I can check out the new stuff.
