Nope. The badge just says Powerstroke, doesnt even say 'Turbo' even though it has one. I guess in 96 they werent putting the turbo on the badge. But it does not matter, its a F250 Super Cab, a REAL truck!
I already started using it for stuff I couldnt do with my military truck, like toss 4x8 boards of sheet rock on in the back with room to spare between the wheel wells , and haul a whole bunch of junk to the dump. When ever I sell my Firebird I may have to tow it to the buyer, my CUCV wouldnt be able to do that.
The word 'PowerStroke' Diesel (PSD) means it has a turbo. The non-turbo diesels were not called PowerStrokes, it just said 'Diesel' on the side badge just under the F-250. There were PowerStroke and regular (non-PSD) versions of the 7.3L. All 6.0L & 6.4L are called PSD. Around 1995-97 there were HD (Heavy Duty) and non-HD versions of the F-250. The non-HD versions were an F-150 with heavier axles and springs, thats it. The F-250 HD is in the same class as the F-350. The Super Dutys are in their own class too, far away from the current F-150. The Super Duty came on the scene in mid 1998 but called the 1999 model year. 3 cab types; Regular cab, Super Cab (1/2 back seat, might have 2 back smaller suicide doors or maybe not), & Crew Cab (full size back seats and doors).
I had a 97 f250. It is the ONLY year* that it also said HEAVY DUTY. Prior to that, it had the trim level under f250. F350 in 97 showed trim level only, never HEAVY DUTY.
Heavy Duty should not be used to designate f-250 and up trucks prior to Super Duty. It just wasn't the same.
The designation HEAVY DUTY is because of the new style F-150 like F-250 that started with that F-150 body style in 97.
That is: in 1997 you have:
F-150 (newer body style)
F-250 (newer body style) also known as F-250 LD 7700lb GVW
F-250 Heavy Duty (OBS) avail 7.3L, 8800 lb GVW, Dana 50 IFS TTB 4x4
F-350 (obs) SRW or DRW 9900 lb and up GVW, Dana 50 and up 4x4
F-Superduty (obs) Cab and Chassis Not the same as SuperDuty starting with 99 MY.
F-53 strip chassis/motor home chassis
Hope that helps.
*There were Light and Heavy F-250's prior to 97 but they were the same body style, and AFAIK, didn't designate on the label. Each year varied, and again, IIRC some years didn't even have a LD model.
...The regular F-250 (light duty) was basically an F-150 with the same body panels but with heavy duty axles and suspension, along with odd 7 lug wheels. The F-250 HD (Heavy Duty) was considered in the same series as the F-350. With the arrival of the all new "Super Duty" series in early 1998, but labeled the 1999 model, the standard F-250 ('light duty'), F-250HD (Heavy Duty), & F-350 line was totally dropped and the F-250 (light duty) was offered as the "7700" package for the F-150 (noted on the tailgate emblem)...
Having also owned another odd ball F-150 7700 I can say that the information on wiki is wrong about the 7700 starting in 98.
It wasn't until the 2000 model year that the LD F-250 was dropped. A large part of it was confusion with the new SuperDuty F-250. So an f-150 based F-250 existed until the 99 MY. The Frame, torsion bars, rear axle, hubs, wheels, springs, and tires along with cooling upgrades were different from the regular f-150. In most but not all cases they also got the 4r100 trans. When it became a 7700 f-150 it was only available with the 5.4L and with rare exception, the 4r100.
So if you read the calendar right, there is no F-series over 8800lb GVW for the 98 MY.

Thats what happens when everyone has their hands in the same pot (since anyone can edit it). Its hard to believe that I cant find any other Ford Truck History sources on the net.
