Smile Loss nuts for the carburetor studs...

Welcome tothe forum!

What engine size? The thread began with a picture of a 300, which has 1/2" nuts holding down the carburetor [1/2" wrench, not bolt size].
The engine is a 215 inline-six. I have seen the complete kit on Summit Racing
ARP 200-2401 - ARP Carburetor Studs - Overview - SummitRacing.com, but I don't think that I would have cut them off and replace them. Please let me know what would you?

Talk to you all soon,

Paul

So as I read these posts I have a question.
When running more that one carb what should the timing be set to?

There is no arbitrary number for the timing when modifications have been applied. Use the factory timing for a starting point and experiment from there. JMO, timing is best set using a vacuum gauge. Unplug the vacuum advance from the distributor and plug in a vacuum gauge. Advance or retard the distributor until the highest steady vacuum reading is achieved then back off 1-2 hg. Then adjust the carbs using the vacuum gauge to the highest steady reading. Do the whole process again...first timing then carbs...then hit the street to try it out to see if further adjustment is necessary.

Reading your vacuum gauge

awsome, was thinking about using a lower end of a EFI intake and the upper of a old edelbrock flathead intake and stromberg carbs, i landed one at a garage sale for 5$ and fell in love with it. cut a hole in the hood and have 3 off-set carbs stickin out... looks great in my minds eye!

52', I like that setup! Very cool looking!

Did you cut up 3 regular 1 barrel intakes to make this one? That takes some skill, cast iron sure isn't an easy thing to weld.

And it's just my opinion, but if you could get your hands on one of those HD exhaust manifolds, I think that would look cooler and match the carbs better than the EFI ones. Just my opinion though!

yes, i used 3 original cast intakes, i pre and post heated the intake while welding (still got a few hairline cracks around acouple welds)

i'm not sure what a HD exhaust manifold is, do you have a picture or link?

there are a few picturs of the intake build in this thread. 52' F-3 buildup........ - Pirate4x4.Com

Very cool! I'd like to try my hand at making one of those someday.

The HD exhaust manifold looks a lot like the original log one, but if flows almost as good as the EFI manifolds and has a bigger 2 1/2 inch outlet that goes straight down. There's a couple pics in here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-manifold.html The only issue might be heating the other two carbs, not sure how that would work...

i have my carbs setup progressive. i removed the idle circuts and chokes from the end Carbs. Mine only idles on the in center carb, so heating the end carbs isn't needed.
If i have to do all over i would have used that HD manifold.

i've got it running on my 52

not a very good video, and it actually sound pretty good inperson....
