02 Explrer A/C compressor cycling
I have a 2002 explorer that is not cooling the air when the AC is on. What I have notice is this:
1.- The compressor cycles on for about 5 to 6 seconds every 30 seconds or so, then its clutch disengages.
2.- I have purchased a recharge bottle of refrigerant with a pressure gauge built-in. When I connect it to the low pressure port, it indicates higher than normal pressure when the compressor is not engaged. When the compressor cycles on, the pressure drops almost to nothing. As i stated above the compressor does not stay on long enough to get an accurate reading.
I have read that the reason for the compressor to have such a fast cycle time is because of low refrigerant perssure. I have not fed any refrigerant into the system because I dont know what reading should I be paying attention to: the higher than normal when the compressor is OFF or the below normal reading when the compressor is ON.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
